Snapchat+ Review: Is it worth it?

Snapchat, the popular multimedia messaging app known for its ephemeral nature, has been a staple of social media culture for years. In an effort to monetize its platform further and offer additional features to its users, Snapchat introduced Snapchat+ in 2022, a subscription service aimed at enhancing the Snapchat experience. But is it worth the investment? In this review, we’ll take a close look at Snapchat+ to help you decide if it’s a snap-worthy addition to your digital life.

What is Snapchat+?

Snapchat+ is a premium subscription service offered by Snapchat that provides users with a range of exclusive features and benefits. Priced at £4.49 on the Google Play store. Originally, when first launched in Summer 2022 it only cost £3.99 and anyone who subscribed before the price change hasn’t seen this sneaky increase.

Features and Benefits

The subscription claims to give access to exclusive, experimental and pre-release features. Here are some of its main selling points and my thoughts on them:

  1. App icon – Pick your own custom app icon from our ever-growing library. However, phones are extremely customisable nowadays so it kind of makes this feature pointless as anyone can change an apps icon.
  2. #1 Best Friend – Pin one friend as your #1 BFF. I think this can be helpful if you snap lots of people and want to keep your best friend at the top.
  3. Get early access – Be the first to try the latest Snapchat features before anyone else. This may be a cool feature for people who like to beta test things before they are released to everyone.
  4. Customise your app – Use Chat wallpapers, Bitmoji backgrounds, custom notification sounds and more.
  5. Enhance your Stories – See how often friends watch your Stories and boost them to get more views. I think this feature is an alright feature, you get one boost per week and if you don’t use it that week it disappears which some may not like.
  6. Snapchat+ badge – Get a Snapchat+ badge that appears next to your name on your profile. I think this feature can be good but bad at the same time, just like the blue checkmark with X Premium/Twitter Blue.

My Experience

In the world of subscription services, Snapchat+ has left some users (including me) feeling like their investment is falling short. Two primary issues stand out: useless customer support and missing promised features. Having a subscription should come with the expectation of responsive customer support, but for many, reaching out for assistance has been a frustrating exercise in futility. Additionally, the allure of exclusive features and enhancements remains unfulfilled for some, leaving them questioning the overall value of their Snapchat+ subscription. These experiences emphasize the importance of ensuring that subscription services deliver on their promises, both in terms of support and the features they advertise.

Conclusion

Snapchat+ is supposedly a step up from the free version of Snapchat, offering a small suite of features and benefits that can enhance the user experience. However, the recurring cost may deter some users when some platforms may have similar features that are not locked behind a paywall. Ultimately, the decision to subscribe to Snapchat+ will depend on your personal preferences and how integral Snapchat is to your daily digital life. If you’re a die-hard Snapchat user who values the additional features and can justify the cost, it might be worth giving Snapchat+ a try. However, if you’re a casual user or are budget-conscious, you may find that the free version of Snapchat continues to meet your needs without the added expense.

If you did enjoy, make sure to check out my other subscription reviews! I must say this is by far my least favourite one to review as the support are useless as I told them for some reason not all the features were working for me and they would just send me the same automated emails.
