Hotel Review: Melia Benidorm

This review is part of my trip to Benidorm yet again, but this time for a convention of the hit ITV show Benidorm which ran for 10 seasons between 2007-2018. You can find all the Benicon content aquí!

Where I stayed: Melia Benidorm: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Information about the hotel

The Melia Benidorm is a modern and I’d say quite posh hotel located on a main road in Benidorm (Av. Dr. Severo Ochoa). It made sense to stay here as the Melia is where the convention is being hosted and they filmed the Hawaiian Function Room scenes here which is quite amazing but didn’t get to go in it due to boxers being there.

For this review it will be split into a few categories:

  • The Rooms
  • The Food
  • Overall opinions on the hotel
  • TL;DR is it worth coming here?

The Rooms

The room I stayed in at the Melia was slightly bigger than the one at the Regente (click to see my review on there). Also, we were on the 16th floor which is much higher and made hotel I stayed at in summer look like an ant but at the end of the day I can’t fault the views as they are amazing during the day and seeing everything lit up at night. Rooms at the Melia are very clean and well looked after and are alright for about 2 people. Furthermore, they have a minibar and some snacks in the rooms however, I avoided them as I wasn’t going to be paying the ridiculous prices, for example three euros for a single pack of chewing gum. Not only that, I think as it’s November time when I’m writing this they don’t keep the balcony lights on like they did in summer which is unfortunate as once it gets dark in the room there are some lights but the room is still fairly dark especially considering when we got here half the LED strip around the bed was not functioning.

Features – Plenty of mirrors, massive mirror in the bathroom so you can watch yourself take a shower, one in the living room and another outside the bathroom on the spacious wardrobe.

The bathroom contains a bath and it also has a hairdryer wires in for you to use. If you’re getting yourself ready for a night out there’s a small stool under the sink you can pull out and sit on in front of the mirror, it might be a little low for some people though.

Some of the things in the bathroom aren’t in the most natural place, for example if you stand at the sink you cant get right at it as there’s a towel rail on the front of it, and when you stand at the sink and you go to reach the handwash you realise it’s actually by the toilet than by the sink.

The Food

This could solely be due to the time of year that we visited nonetheless I was quite disappointed about the options offered at mealtimes because I’d be settling for something like chips because I wasn’t a fan of what else was being offered. On the other hand, I’m giving credit where it is due, the breakfast was great I could find all the good food I had in summer at a different hotel in this one which was superb. Lastly, I want to talk about the dining room as it was actually quite posh and nicely laid out and the staff always keep it in good shape. Also, drinks aren’t included in half board so be prepared to pay.

Overall opinions on the hotel

My overall opinions on this hotel is that it is too posh for me, I like the modern element of it. However, the Regente for example is more to my taste as it’s livelier and it was absolutely outstanding when I visited. I think the Melia is great if you are the complete opposite to me as I usually go on holiday for a laugh and a good time. Final thoughts are with all the extras this hotel is like being in IKEA.

TL;DR

If you’re not posh, don’t want to spend lots of money, want variety and a livelier hotel then this probably isn’t for you. Contrary, if you want the opposite then I would recommend this place for you.

View from the balcony. We were quite high up!
